March 5 – Turntable Talk 12 : Melissa Was Hot From The Start
This is a repost from a guest post I did for Dave at A Sound Day
Thanks for taking part Randy. I like this song & most of her material and it’s easy to see why she’s compared to JJ…but dare I say it …I like her records more than Joplin’s

Great post Randy…I just posted on Dave’s site. I was in the dark that day when this was posted…our lights just came back on last night…it was a beautiful thing!
Like I said over there…I don’t like sweet sounding divas…no I’ll take gravel and intensity in their voice. I liked her when I heard this album in the 80s…finally…NOT a Madonna clone…but a real live singer who relies on just music.

Thanks Max. So glad you finally got power back. I can’t imagine going that long without it! Yes Melissa was a bit a fresh air for Rock/music at that time.

Yes…and I was desparate for it around this time. At the time I was beginning to think it would not come back. I remember a concert by her that I wish I would have gone seen…she was doing Joplin covers.

She did an awesome job at the 2005 Grammys with a Joplin tribute.

As previously noted on Dave’s blog, I think this is a great pick. With “Like the Way I Do” and “Bring Me Some Water”, it includes two of Melissa’s classics, at least in my book.
